Chasen Allan Macklin, a registered sex offender, provided acid to a teenage girl and then sexually abused her in his vehicle parked in a Eugene department store parking lot five days later, a Lane County jury found Wednesday, March 18, convicting him on seven counts including two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance to a minor.

The verdict came roughly two years after a teenager reported in January 2024 that Macklin had sexually assaulted her. The Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit investigated and determined Macklin had given the girl the drug before abusing her in his vehicle. The girl was under 18, according to court documents.

Detectives established probable cause to arrest Macklin, and on March 28, 2024, officers stopped him during a traffic stop on the Northwest Expressway. He did not comply. "During the traffic stop, Macklin refused to follow verbal commands, resisted arrest and attempted to flee," Eugene police said in a statement. "During this, Macklin's actions put an officer and the detective's safety at high risk. After a struggle, they got him into custody."

Beyond the two sexual abuse counts, the jury also convicted Macklin of first-degree escape, resisting arrest, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. In a separate bench trial, Lane County Circuit Judge Kamala Shugar found him guilty of unlawful contact with a child.

The jury acquitted Macklin on one additional count of second-degree sexual abuse. Both the jury and Judge Shugar declined to find that Macklin had "persistent involvement in similar offenses," meaning there was no finding of aggravating circumstances that could have resulted in a harsher sentence under Oregon law.

Macklin has been remanded and is being held at the Lane County Adult Corrections Facility. Sentencing is scheduled for April 2, 2026.
