Eugene Public Library hosts free Comic-Con events for kids, teens

Eugene Public Library is offering two free Comic-Con events at Downtown Library as families look for low-cost August activities in Eugene. The first, Lil Comic-Con, was held Friday, July 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 5 to 9 with their grown-ups, and the second, Teen and Tween Comic-Con, is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for ages 9 to 19.

Both events take place at the Downtown Library, 100 W 10th Ave., and both are part of the library’s Summer Reading program. That program runs June through August and includes free events and activities around town, along with gift books, book bingo and other ways to keep children reading before school starts.

The younger Comic-Con is built for costume play and creativity. Children can come dressed up or make a costume at the event, making it an easy option for families who want something fun without paying admission or buying supplies ahead of time. The teen session leans into fandom with games and space for older kids and teenagers to gather around comics, pop culture and related activities.

The library also gives participants another incentive to stop by. Children and teens who have not already done so can choose their Summer Reading gift book to keep, connecting the Comic-Con events directly to the library’s broader reading push. For families trying to stretch the last weeks of summer, that makes the events more than a one-day outing: they are a free way to spend time at the library, pick up a book and stay involved in a citywide reading program.

With one event now complete and the other still ahead, the schedule gives Lane County families a clear choice by age group and date. The setup keeps the events simple to plan around, local to Eugene and accessible without tickets, registration fees or a trip outside town.
