Juvenile Arrested in Feb. 17 Shooting Near Autzen Stadium Leaves 14-Year-Old Critical
A juvenile suspect was arrested Friday (Feb. 20) and charged with first-degree assault after a shooting near Marche Chase Drive and Kinsrow Avenue by Autzen Stadium left a 14-year-old boy in critical condition.

A juvenile suspect was arrested Friday (Feb. 20, 2026) and charged with first-degree assault after a Feb. 17 shooting near Marche Chase Drive and Kinsrow Avenue, the area by Autzen Stadium, that left a 14-year-old male hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Eugene Police Department officers provided immediate care at the scene until Eugene Springfield Fire Department crews transported the victim to a hospital.
Callers reported shots fired in the area the evening of Feb. 17, with reports varying on timing: Eugene police received calls at approximately 9:45 p.m., while other accounts place calls just before or around 10 p.m. Witnesses told dispatchers people and vehicles were fleeing the scene, and responding officers learned an injured person was in the parking lot of Chase Gardens Medical Center at 330 S. Garden Way.
The victim, a 14-year-old male, later was identified by his family on a GoFundMe page as Major Clemens; the fundraiser states Clemens was shot in the head and placed in a medically induced coma. The family’s GoFundMe adds, “Our hearts are broken as we face this unimaginable crisis,” and says Clemens faces a “long, uncertain road to recovery ahead” with the family taking things “moment by moment.” The fundraiser is seeking $30,000 and had raised more than $15,600 as of Friday afternoon.
Investigators say the shooting was not random. In an EPD news release, and reiterated by EPD spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin, the department said, “This is not a random act of violence but instead is an incident between a group of individuals.” EPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Unit responded to the scene and continue to investigate.
Officials reported that a juvenile suspect was taken into custody Friday and charged with first-degree assault; no additional identifying information about the suspect has been released because of juvenile confidentiality rules. The department described the arrest and the charging decision in its release while advising the investigation remains ongoing.
At the scene, officers rendered first aid prior to the arrival of Eugene Springfield Fire Department units, which transported the victim to a hospital; the department has not released the name of the medical facility. EPD continues to process evidence from the area around Marche Chase Drive and Kinsrow Avenue and at the Chase Gardens Medical Center parking lot at 330 S. Garden Way.
Police and prosecutors have said details will be limited while the suspect is a juvenile and the investigation continues. EPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Unit remain assigned to the case as investigators work to piece together events from the Feb. 17 evening shooting.
