Lane County closes Division-River connector Sunday for guardrail repairs
One lane under Beltline will close Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., forcing River Road and Beltline drivers onto Division Avenue during guardrail repairs.

One lane on the Division Avenue-River Avenue Connector under Beltline Highway will be closed Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., tightening a key link for Eugene drivers moving between River Road, Beltline Highway and nearby neighborhoods.
Lane County said crews will be on the connector east of the River Road exit to repair a guardrail, a job that will leave only part of the roadway available for most of the day. The county's alternate route directs drivers to the westbound Beltline Highway off-ramp to Division Avenue, the clearest detour for people who normally use the connector as a quick cut through the area.

The timing matters for commuters, delivery drivers and weekend travelers who rely on the short connection to keep trips across north Eugene moving. Even a one-lane restriction on a corridor like this can slow traffic because the connector serves as a local pressure valve between River Road and Beltline, especially when other nearby streets are already carrying regular neighborhood traffic.
Lane County Public Works describes its mission as maintaining, protecting and enhancing the livability and sustainability of the county's natural and built environments. The transportation side of that work includes upkeep of the county system, along with some state highways and city streets handled under contract. The county also says its roads connect urban and rural communities to jobs, health care, education, social services, recreation and food supply, which helps explain why a short repair on a connector road draws attention well beyond the work zone itself.
The closure notice was posted on Lane County's website May 11 and distributed through FlashAlert. County road and bridge work is organized through a five-year capital improvement plan, and the guardrail repair fits into that larger maintenance effort meant to keep the system safe and efficient rather than waiting for a more serious failure later.
Lane County Engineering & Construction Services handles planning, design and construction for transportation projects, while the Road Maintenance Division is responsible for upkeep of the county transportation system. The connector alert appeared alongside a separate notice about the Deadwood Covered Bridge, underscoring that the county was flagging multiple maintenance disruptions at once and giving drivers advance warning before Sunday morning traffic hits the Beltline corridor.
