A Friday night fire reduced a mobile home to ruins at Midway Manor mobile home park in Eugene, displacing one resident and drawing a rapid response from Eugene-Springfield Fire crews who arrived within four minutes of the initial call.

Eugene-Springfield Fire was dispatched at approximately 6:01 p.m. on March 9 after a structure fire was reported at the park. Jesse Gill with Eugene-Springfield Fire described what crews encountered on arrival: "There was heavy fire from the back of the structure with a threat to exposures about 10 feet away." Neighboring units came within roughly 10 feet of the blaze before firefighters moved to contain it.

"We were dispatched about 1801 for a reported structure fire. First crew arrived four minutes later," Gill said. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain the flames and protect nearby structures, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent homes in the park.

The cause has not been officially determined, but a neighbor speculated that an unattended lit candle may have ignited the blaze, with flames quickly engulfing the home before crews arrived. Eugene-Springfield Fire has not confirmed that account, and no official cause determination has been released.
