Fifteen teams packed the Kidsports Fieldhouse in Eugene on March 7 for Relief Nursery's fifth annual "Dodge for a Cause" dodgeball tournament, netting roughly $17,000 to support the nonprofit's parenting services and family programs.

The tournament drew local businesses, sponsors, nonprofit teams and community groups who competed across four simultaneous courts throughout the day, all vying for the championship crown. Judges also handed out awards in three categories: best dressed, best team name and best sportsmanship. Spectators got in free, with seating and standing-room available alongside food trucks, a bar and community entertainment.

The funds benefit Relief Nursery's Parent Education Program, which offers free group parenting classes and other resources to Lane County families. The organization has been providing child development and family support services in the county for roughly 50 years.

Samantha Pardy, marketing coordinator for the Downtown Athletic Club, captured the spirit of the event. "Relief Nursery helps so many people in the community," she said. "The event just makes me feel like a kid again."

The 2026 edition marks the fifth consecutive year Relief Nursery has used the dodgeball format to rally community support. The previous tournament, held March 1, 2025 as the fourth annual event, saw the organization aiming to fill 20 team slots. This year's field closed at 15 confirmed teams before competition day.
