Suspect arrested after assault leaves Lane County man seriously injured

A suspect was lodged in the Lane County Jail on a first-degree assault charge after an attack that left a Lane County man seriously injured and in stable but critical condition. Investigators said the case remains open, and additional charges may still be filed.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest followed additional investigation into the assault. In similar Lane County cases, deputies have said they first spoke with an injured victim and witnesses before developing probable cause for an arrest, sometimes only after the suspect’s whereabouts were known.

The sheriff’s office has said in past assault investigations that victims were treated on scene by medics or taken to an area hospital before a suspect was booked into jail. In another recent case, investigators said the victim remained in stable but critical condition as the inquiry continued.
