Twenty-five Lane County nonprofits split $120,500 in philanthropic grants from Weyerhaeuser's Giving Fund, the timber company announced March 25, with awards targeting workforce development, education, youth programming, environmental stewardship and community needs throughout Eugene and Cottage Grove.

The Springfield Education Foundation was among the named Lane County recipients. Sona Hodaie, the foundation's executive director, said the funding directly sustains classroom work across every school in Springfield Public Schools. "This support allows SEF to continue to fund classroom innovations across every Springfield school, strengthen essential programs, and keep joy in learning alive for thousands of students," Hodaie said.

Dana Quartly, who serves as both the Eugene Giving Fund committee member and Weyerhaeuser's Southern Oregon region manager, framed the grants as an ongoing institutional commitment rather than a one-time contribution. "Weyerhaeuser is proud to continue supporting the nonprofits serving Lane County through another year of Giving Fund contributions," Quartly said. "The dedication these organizations bring to their work is critical for creating stronger, healthier communities for all our neighbors."

The Lane County total is the largest single-county figure in a broader Oregon disbursement: across the state, Weyerhaeuser distributed nearly $280,000 in the same grant cycle. Coos County received $13,500 across four grants, one of which will fund a tsunami evacuation sound system for the Bandon School District. In Lebanon, the South Santiam Watershed Council received a grant to support riparian plantings, habitat restoration and safety equipment purchases for its Youth Watershed Councils program.

Funding priorities are set locally. Weyerhaeuser employees serve on county-level advisory committees and determine which focus areas receive support, a structure that channels company personnel into decisions about environmental stewardship, education and youth development, human services, affordable housing and workforce investment.

Nonprofits seeking funding in the next cycle have until September 30 to apply. Weyerhaeuser is currently accepting 2026 Giving Fund applications from eligible organizations located within Oregon operating communities, with application details available on the company's website.
