Kailain Sanford gave Primero its clearest sign of progress in Pueblo, finishing fourth in the boys shot put with a personal-best throw of 47 feet, 3 inches as the Bulldogs moved through the Pueblo Twilight meet and deeper into Southern Peaks League competition.

That mark mattered for more than one event. For a small Las Animas County school measuring itself against a larger field, Sanford’s fourth-place finish showed Primero can still score against stronger Pueblo competition, and it gave the Bulldogs a new standard to chase as the spring season tightened around league meets.

Primero also got a lift from freshman Kayden Olguin, who moved through the boys 110-meter hurdles and added another individual result to the team’s ledger. For a program built on a wide range of athletes contributing in throws, jumps, sprints and distance races, Olguin’s advance mattered because it showed the team is not relying on one standout performance to carry the season.

The combination of a personal record and a competitive placing is the kind of development small-school track programs lean on. Sanford’s throw showed immediate strength in the ring, while Olguin’s hurdles run pointed to growth from a younger athlete who can keep adding to Primero’s depth as the season continues.

That is what makes the Pueblo Twilight meet useful for Primera’s spring, even beyond the final results. The Bulldogs left Pueblo with a measurable best, a solid finish and more evidence that their season is still trending upward. Their next Southern Peaks League meet will give Primero another chance to turn that progress into points, and another chance for classmates, families and local supporters to see how far the Bulldogs have come.
