Trinidad Cinco de Mayo Fiesta returns May 9 with full-day celebration

Adriana is helping line up vendors for Trinidad’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, set for Saturday, May 9, at the Southern Colorado Coal Miners Memorial, where the celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and has already drawn interest from 111 people.

The long schedule signals more than a short plaza gathering. Organizers are planning a full-day celebration with live bands, a car show, a salsa contest, a horseshoe tournament and a beer garden, along with plenty of vendors and room for families to move through the grounds. For Trinidad, that kind of lineup turns one spring Saturday into a downtown-style draw that can bring shoppers, diners and visitors into the city for most of the day.

Organizers are still looking for vendors, volunteers and sponsors to keep the fiesta running at the scale people expect. Vendor or sponsor information is being handled through Adriana at 720-839-8841, Yolanda at 719-680-5872, and Eloy for additional information.

The sponsor list already attached to the fiesta reflects how broad the local support has become. The City of Trinidad, Hilton Gardens, JM Tires, Carquest of Trinidad & Raton, Space to Create, Trinidad Smokehouse, Mt. San Rafael Hospital, Big R, Electrical Systems Inc., Twin Enviro, Mission At The Bell, KCRT and T&D Family Grill are all named among the backers.

That mix matters because it shows the celebration is being carried by a cross-section of Trinidad institutions, small businesses and civic partners, not just a single organizer. With live music, competition, food and vendors all in one place, the fiesta is set to give Las Animas County residents a familiar spring gathering point and give downtown Trinidad another strong day of foot traffic before the busy summer event season.
