East Helena High graduates 134 seniors in fourth ceremony

East Helena High School’s fourth graduating class sent 134 seniors out from the school football field, a milestone that matters well beyond a single spring ceremony in East Helena. The school opened in 2020, and East Helena Public Schools says it is the district’s final K-12 stop, making each commencement a marker of how the campus is settling into the community’s identity.

This year’s class spread the honors widely, with nine valedictorians and 10 salutatorians. The senior year also produced visible milestones for the school’s public profile: Vigilante volleyball hosted divisionals for the first time, Eli Urdahl became East Helena High’s first state-champ wrestler, and Lauren Richardson organized several Red Cross blood draws.

Those accomplishments came as East Helena schools continue to grow. District enrollment surpassed 2,000 students in 2025, according to KXLH, and East Helena High alone is listed at 582 students by U.S. News, with a third-party school directory putting the total at about 563. That growth has sharpened the stakes around staffing and support, especially after East Helena residents rejected a $392,000 school mill levy on May 5 that would have paid for three new teachers.

The graduation also fed into a wider Helena-area rite of passage. East Helena graduates were among those invited to the June 6 Helena Senior All Night Party, folding the school’s seniors into a countywide celebration that reaches beyond the East Valley. For a school that has now produced a full four-year record, the fourth commencement showed how quickly a new building can become an established institution, and how closely the community now watches what it produces next.
