Helena Office of Public Assistance Moves to New Montana Avenue Location
The Department of Public Health and Human Services announced the Helena Office of Public Assistance will begin serving clients from 2021 N. Montana Avenue beginning Wednesday Dec. 17, 2025, with limited services continuing at 111 N. Sanders through Friday Dec. 19. The move affects residents who rely on in person help for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and the agency has posted contact options to reduce disruption.

State officials announced on December 9 that the Helena Office of Public Assistance will relocate its in person services to 2021 N. Montana Avenue effective Wednesday Dec. 17, 2025. The current office at 111 N. Sanders will keep offering limited services through Friday Dec. 19 to help clients during the transition. Beginning Monday Dec. 22 all Helena OPA services will be provided exclusively at the new N. Montana Avenue address.
Normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will remain in effect at both sites during the transition period. Clients with questions are asked to call the Public Assistance Help Line at 1 888 706 1535 or to email HHSHCSOPAlewis&clark@mt.gov. Applications for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families can be submitted online at apply.mt.gov, or by calling the Public Assistance Help Line.

The Helena office is one of 19 statewide locations that provide in person assistance for federal and state benefit programs. For many local residents, especially those with limited internet access or complex eligibility situations, in person service is a practical necessity. The staggered timetable aims to allow benefit applicants and current recipients to complete filings or receive help without a gap in service.
For members of the public or partner organizations seeking more information, the DPHHS contact provided for media inquiries is Jon Ebelt, Communications Director, reachable at (406) 444 0936 or (406) 461 3757, and by email at jebelt@mt.gov. The department has emphasized continuity of service during the move and the availability of phone and online options for clients who cannot visit either site during the brief overlap and final transfer of operations.
Local residents who rely on public assistance services should note the new address and dates, and use the help line or the online portal if they have scheduling concerns or need to confirm specific appointments.
