Sections of Ashley Pond Park will be temporarily closed beginning the week of March 16 as a contractor tears out and replaces aging, damaged concrete in high-traffic areas of the park, Los Alamos County's Parks and Open Space Division announced.

The project is estimated to last three weeks, weather and construction conditions permitting, with the contractor working 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pathways and surrounding work zones will be inaccessible to the public for safety reasons throughout that period, though the county said all other park amenities will remain open.

"The project will include the removal and replacement of aging and damaged concrete in high-traffic areas," the county said in its news release. "These improvements are part of the County's ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, accessible, and high-quality public spaces for residents and visitors."

The county announced the closure on Instagram on March 9, two days before the scheduled work window. The news release did not identify the contractor by name, specify a project cost, or provide a map of the exact pathways to be closed beyond describing them as high-traffic areas within the designated work zone.

The county acknowledged the inconvenience directly: "The County appreciates the community's patience while these important upgrades are completed."
