Ashley Pond to host whimsical Wuthering Heights dance event

Ashley Pond will host Los Alamos' second The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever on Aug. 1, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., turning the county's most familiar public space into a free, all-ages dance ritual. Visit Los Alamos lists the gathering as free and open to all, including all genders and all ages.

The event draws its identity from Kate Bush's original 1978 video for Wuthering Heights, and a July 6, 2025 preview framed it as a free community event celebrating Emily Brontë's classic book and Bush's song. A Los Alamos Daily Post photo tied to Marjorie Madsen's coverage showed Eileen Green, Anita Boshier and Chloe Keilers practicing their wuthering moves with the video playing in the background, a vivid sign that the performance is meant to be joined rather than merely watched.

That local momentum was visible again in a July 7, 2025 item, Practice Your Wuthering Skills For 'Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever,' which invited residents to rehearse before the first Los Alamos outing. On July 19, 2025, seventeen participants wuthered at Ashley Pond, the first TMWHDE in Los Alamos and New Mexico and, at the time, the highest-elevation event globally. The turnout gave the idea a local track record before this year's return to the pond.

Ashley Pond has become a natural fit for that kind of low-barrier summer gathering. The location is easy to recognize, easy to reach, and already functions as one of Los Alamos' most visible public spaces, which helps an offbeat tradition feel accessible to families, newcomers and longtime residents alike. Instead of a formal stage production, the event offers a short outdoor burst of movement, laughter and shared reference points built around a song many people know but few expect to see turned into a group dance.
