Central Avenue Tree Pruning Set for March 10-11 to Reduce Fire Risk
Southwest Fire Defense crews pruned trees along Central Avenue from 4th Street to Bathtub Row on March 10-11, temporarily closing sidewalks to cut fire risk.

Southwest Fire Defense crews worked along Central Avenue on Tuesday and Wednesday, pruning trees from 4th Street toward Bathtub Row as part of Los Alamos County's ongoing effort to reduce fire risk and manage vegetation along the corridor.
Sections of sidewalk within the work area were temporarily closed during the two-day operation, with clearly marked detour signs posted to guide pedestrians around the active work zones. The county advised residents and visitors to use caution when traveling through the area and to follow posted signage while crews were on site.
Los Alamos County framed the pruning as part of a continuing vegetation management effort aimed at maintaining public safety, with fire risk reduction cited as the primary driver. Central Avenue, which runs through the heart of town past landmarks including Bathtub Row, represents one of the community's most traveled corridors, making the management of tree canopy along it a recurring public safety consideration in a region that has experienced significant wildfire threats in recent years.
