County Hosts Free DIY Workshop for Homeowners at Fuller Lodge March 28

Homeowners planning a fence, carport, or small addition can get face-to-face guidance on permits and project requirements at a free workshop Los Alamos County's Community Development Department is hosting Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon in Fuller Lodge's Pajarito Room.

Staff from the department's Building and Planning teams will be on hand to field questions about potential home improvement projects, walk homeowners through the permitting process, and explain the tradeoffs between hiring a licensed contractor and tackling work themselves. The county cited projects ranging from small additions to new fences and carports as examples of what the workshop is designed to address.

Attendees are encouraged to bring photos, drawings, or plans for review, giving staff something concrete to work from rather than fielding purely hypothetical questions. The format appears geared toward one-on-one consultation rather than a formal presentation, though the county has not specified whether the event is drop-in or requires advance registration.

The Community Development Department posted notice of the workshop to the county website on March 18. Fuller Lodge sits at 2132 Central Avenue and is a familiar civic landmark for Los Alamos residents; the Pajarito Room is one of its interior meeting spaces.
