County Invites Public Input on Bayo Canyon Trailhead Improvements at March 24 Meeting

Los Alamos County and landscape architecture firm Groundwork Studio are inviting trail users, cyclists, hikers, and neighbors to weigh in on a planned overhaul of the Bayo Canyon Trailhead at a public meeting set for Tuesday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge.

The project aims to design and develop an improved, accessible trailhead that supports a wide range of recreational needs. The full scope runs from concept development and schematics through construction documents, specifications, and construction administration, meaning the feedback gathered now will shape decisions across every phase of the project.

Planned amenities include expanded parking with trailer capacity, ADA-compliant parking spaces, a vault toilet, an informational kiosk, a bicycle repair station, and a shade structure with a picnic table. Accessibility considerations are to be integrated throughout, with the county stating that all amenities should be usable and welcoming to the entire community.

The March 24 session is the second formal public engagement opportunity in a process that began last fall. The county uploaded its Public Information and Involvement Plan on Dec. 2, 2025, and held a first community engagement session on Feb. 11, 2026. The county published the public notice for the upcoming meeting on March 12.
