Los Alamos County Announced Thanksgiving Service Closures and Schedules

Los Alamos County released a notice on November 21, 2025 detailing which municipal services would be closed or operating on modified schedules for Thanksgiving week. The release said administrative offices and senior centers would be closed on Thursday November 27 and Friday November 28, and it listed facility specific schedules for libraries, recreation facilities and public works.

Atomic City Transit did not operate on the holiday and MyRide service was suspended, leaving residents who rely on public transportation to arrange alternatives for travel during the two day closure. The county said both the Mesa and White Rock libraries would have modified hours before and after Thanksgiving. The Aquatic Center and Leisure Lagoon also operated on adjusted schedules around the holiday. Environmental Services was listed as closed on Thursday and Friday, and the Eco Station and Overlook Convenience Center were closed on the holiday and on the following Friday, with alternate collection instructions provided for residential and commercial customers.

Utility customer service offices were closed for the holiday period, although crews remained on call for emergencies. The release directed residents to contact the unified dispatch line for Police, Fire, Utilities and Parks by phone at 505 662 8222, and to use 911 for life threatening emergencies. The county also included information about the Ice Rink opening day in the notice for residents planning winter recreation, without changing the stated holiday closures.

For locals the guidance underscored the need to plan waste pickup and commercial deliveries around the modified Environmental Services schedule, and to seek other transportation options while Atomic City Transit and MyRide were not in service. Seniors who use county centers for meals and activities faced two days without those services, and families relying on library hours or aquatic programs were asked to check schedules before heading out.

The county wide notice aimed to reduce confusion by centralizing holiday schedules and emergency contact information. Residents with specific questions were directed to consult the county website or use the dispatch number for urgent matters during the Thanksgiving period.
