Los Alamos County said in a Feb. 21 traffic advisory republished by the Los Alamos Reporter, "As part of the HVAC upgrade project at the Los Alamos Golf Course Clubhouse, a 50-ton crane will travel through town on Monday, February 23, 2026." The mobilization supports replacement or installation of HVAC equipment at the clubhouse and is scheduled to take place today.

"The crane’s route will follow NM 502/East Road to Trinity Drive and Diamond Drive, arriving at 4244 Diamond Dr," the county news release states, with movement limited to a narrow midday window. "Movement is scheduled between noon and 1:00 p.m.," which county officials say is the period when the oversized load will pass through Los Alamos streets toward the clubhouse on Diamond Drive.

To accommodate crane staging and lifting operations, "The east end of the Los Alamos Golf Course parking lot will be closed from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to accommodate crane operations." County material notes that all positioning and lift activity "will remain within the east parking lot area. Please refer to the map for details," indicating a mapped footprint for residents and visitors to consult for parking and pedestrian impacts.

The county release lays out the plan for removal after the lift is complete: "Once the HVAC equipment is installed, the crane will demobilize along the same route later that day, and the parking lot will reopen immediately after its departure." That demobilization along NM 502/East Road and Trinity Drive is expected to clear staging from the golf-course property before evening.

Safety messaging in the advisory urges caution around the staging area. "Residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution near the staging area to ensure safety during the lift. Los Alamos County appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as this important facility upgrade is completed," the release says.

For questions about timing, access, or the referenced map, the county directs the public to the Public Works Department at 505-662-8150 or by email at lacpw@lacnm.us. The advisory and map were published as a county news release on the Los Alamos Reporter site; the county issued the traffic advisory on Feb. 21 ahead of today's mobilization.
