Los Alamos County Asks Residents to Shape Climate Action Messaging
Angelica Gurule, Los Alamos County's sustainability manager, wants residents to pick the names and visuals that will define the county's climate programs for years to come. The survey closes April 1.

Los Alamos County is seeking community input on how climate action information and efforts are presented to residents over the next several years, and the window to weigh in closes in days.
"We want to create something that sparks curiosity and inspires people to take action in their everyday lives to be stewards of our beautiful environment," said Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule. "This is an opportunity for everyone to help shape how we move forward together."
The county posted the invitation on March 20, asking residents to give feedback not on climate policy itself, but on something more foundational: what the county's climate-action materials will actually look like and what they will be called. The effort may cover programs and initiatives related to energy efficiency, alternative transportation, and zero-waste. The survey presents participants with potential names, taglines, and visual styles that could represent those climate actions going forward, giving everyday residents a direct hand in shaping how the county communicates one of its core strategic priorities.
Los Alamos County aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and advance other sustainable practices county-wide, and the branding and messaging effort is part of translating that long-term ambition into materials that connect with the broader community. The county's Climate Action Plan lays out a roadmap for achieving the community's vision of a resilient and sustainable Los Alamos. Gurule's survey is a step toward ensuring that residents recognize and engage with the programs designed to carry out that plan.

The survey takes less than two minutes to complete and will remain open through April 1, 2026. After participating, residents are asked to share the survey with friends and family of all ages to ensure broad community representation.
