Los Alamos County Leases White Rock Piñon Pool for Summer 2026
Los Alamos County has secured a lease for the Piñon Pool in White Rock to provide swim capacity while the Olympic and Therapy Pools are closed for re-plastering.

Los Alamos County’s Community Services Department said it has secured a lease for the Piñon Pool in White Rock to fill a gap created by a lengthy re-plastering closure at the county’s Olympic and Therapy Pools. The closure begins February 22, 2026 and runs through October 2026, prompting the county to seek nearby alternatives for public swim, lessons, and programming.
“Considering the impact on the swimming community during the Olympic Pool Re-plastering Project, Los Alamos County staff have been communicating with the local and regional pools to secure an alternative space during the closure of Olympic and Therapy Pools, February 22, 2026, through October 2026.” The county reached out to the property owner, Attack Research, with a proposal to operate Piñon Pool from May 2026 to October 2026. “The Los Alamos County Community Services Department is happy to announce that it has secured a lease for the Piñon Pool, located in White Rock,” the release states.

County staff plan site work and equipment checks ahead of a projected May 2026 opening. “Over the course of the next couple of months, County staff will be working to reopen the facility, including site clean-up and ensuring equipment starts up and functions properly, in order to open to the public in May.” Under the county plan, Piñon Pool will operate on a schedule similar to the Main Olympic Pool: “Piñon Pool will operate similarly to the Main Olympic Pool, with hours from 6:00am – 7:00pm Monday through Friday, and 9:00am – 5:00pm on Saturdays.” The release also notes that “the pool will be open to the public, and Aquatic Center pass holders can also utilize the facility.”
The move reactivates a site that was closed in 2025. “The Piñon Pool Association previously ran Piñon Pool; however, they closed the facility in 2025 due to a lack of memberships.” With Attack Research listed as the property owner, the county’s short-term lease is presented as a stopgap to preserve swim access for residents, particularly for lap swimmers, lesson schedules, and public swim hours displaced by the re-plastering project.
During the Olympic and Therapy Pools closure, the county will also keep the Leisure Lagoon open on a revised schedule beginning February 23, 2026. The planned Leisure Lagoon schedule lists fitness classes 9:00am – 11:00am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with general public and swim lessons 11:00am – 7:00pm those days. Tuesday and Thursday are scheduled 9:00am – 7:00pm for general public and swim lessons, and Saturday is scheduled 12:00pm – 3:00pm for general public use. The county said it may expand current Saturday hours.
For residents, the lease means an option for summer pool access in White Rock and continued programming at Leisure Lagoon while the county completes re-plastering work. A more detailed schedule for Piñon Pool will be posted on the Aquatic Center webpage as the opening approaches, and officials say Aquatic Center pass holders will be able to use the White Rock facility. Expect county updates over the coming weeks as staff complete cleanup, equipment start-up, and the final schedule for summer programming.
