Los Alamos County Offices Closing for Christmas and New Year
Los Alamos County announced on December 19 that government offices and many services will close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, aligning with federal and state observances. The schedule affects administrative offices, senior centers, Atomic City Transit, libraries, and other community facilities, and residents are urged to confirm specific hours and emergency instructions before the holidays.
The county announced that in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Los Alamos County government offices and services will close on Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026. The closures mirror federal and state schedules and are intended to give staff and families time to observe the holidays.
County administrative offices, senior centers, Atomic City Transit, and the Environmental Services division will be closed on both days. These closures mean routine in person services for permits, payments, and community programming will not be available on those dates. Transit riders who rely on Atomic City Transit should plan alternative arrangements around the holiday closures. Senior center participants and those who depend on congregate meals or activities will need to note that those services are not operating on the two holiday dates.
Library services will operate modified hours around the holidays. The White Rock Branch and Mesa Public libraries will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and closed on New Year’s Day. The Mesa Public Library will host a Noon Year’s Eve event from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve for families and children to mark the turning of the year. The Aquatic Center and Leisure Lagoon will operate on modified holiday hours. The county release noted additional facilities and services with holiday schedules in the full announcement.
The county’s announcement included links and contact information for residents to confirm schedule changes and to learn emergency service instructions during the holiday closures. Residents should verify trash and recycling schedules and any appointment or deadline that might fall around the holiday dates. For urgent needs during the closures, standard emergency services remain available, but non emergency county functions will be paused on the specified days.
