Los Alamos County seeks applicants for vacant Personnel Board seat

Los Alamos County is accepting applications for a vacant seat on the five-member Personnel Board, a three-year appointment that would run through March 31, 2029. The county said the board sits at the center of how employee disputes and personnel policy are handled inside county government.

The Personnel Board serves in both an advisory and appellate capacity under Section 306.2 of the Los Alamos County Charter and the county code. County rules say the board was established to report annually to the County Council on the operation of the personnel system, giving it a direct role in how the county’s workforce is governed and how accountability is tracked.

That work can reach into several corners of county employment policy. When asked, the board can review countywide employee surveys, personnel rules, salary plans and other employee programs. It also can hear appeals in disciplinary cases involving regular county employees, making the seat more than a ceremonial volunteer post. In a small county government, those decisions can affect workplace standards, morale and how employees view the fairness of the system.

Applicants must be Los Alamos County residents who do not hold public office and are not employed by the county. That makes the opening a citizen-service position rather than an internal staff role, with the county looking for someone who can serve independently on matters that may involve discipline, pay structure and other personnel questions.

The board normally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the Municipal Building’s Boards and Commissions Room 110 at 1000 Central Ave. The county’s event calendar currently lists Personnel Board meetings for June 23, July 28, August 25, September 22 and October 27, all from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building, Suite 110.

Los Alamos County has posted similar Personnel Board vacancy notices in prior years, including 2022, 2023 and 2024, showing the board is regularly refreshed as part of routine county governance.
