Christopher Ross was promoted to commander as the Los Alamos Police Department swore in three new officers Thursday at the Magistrate Courtroom.

Christopher Ross was promoted to commander and three new officers joined the Los Alamos Police Department during a formal swearing-in ceremony held Thursday morning at the Los Alamos Magistrate Courtroom.
The ceremony, which began at 11 a.m. on March 19, was presided over by Magistrate Judge Catherine Taylor. Alongside Ross's promotion, newly appointed officers Mary Barela, Perla Castanon and Melford William Hurd were officially sworn into the department.
Ross's elevation to commander represents a leadership advancement within the department's command structure. The three newly appointed officers bring fresh personnel to a police force that serves a community of roughly 13,000 residents in one of New Mexico's most distinctive municipalities, home to Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The department had invited the public to attend the occasion. Those seeking additional information can contact the Los Alamos Police Department at (505) 662-8222.
