Los Alamos PRIDE Rocky Horror Shadow Cast Seeks Performers by March 15

The window to join Los Alamos PRIDE's Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast is closing fast: director Alex DiBranco is accepting audition forms through March 15 for a production set for June.

Auditioning is less daunting than it sounds. Candidates lip sync, with energy, to a song from the Rocky Horror Picture Show and dance the Time Warp, and DiBranco teaches the moves. "This is a fun production to participate in that is a lower commitment than a full-stage play," DiBranco said. "It's geared toward both brand-new and experienced performers."

Performers must be 21 or older. Those who submit the online form will be contacted with a specific audition time and location. Questions can go directly to DiBranco at alexandradibranco@gmail.com.

The call isn't limited to onstage talent. The production also needs volunteers for tech, makeup, costumes, and choreography, among other essential roles.

The shadow-cast format pairs live performers with the film itself: cast members learn lip sync and choreography while the movie plays with sound behind them. It's a tradition that tends to bring out the crowd. Past productions in Los Alamos have drawn audiences loaded with their own costumes, props, and, as the organizers put it, "good, loud voices."

The film at the center of it all is the 1975 cult classic in which Brad, played in the film by Barry Bostwick, and Janet, played by Susan Sarandon, blow a tire during a storm and seek help at the castle of the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter, portrayed by Tim Curry. The castle, as it turns out, is full of characters: Riff Raff, Magenta, and Frank's own creation, a muscle man named Rocky.
