Los Alamos Seeks Public Input on Fleet Conversion and EV Charging

On November 19 Los Alamos County published a notice inviting residents, business owners and stakeholders to a public meeting and to review draft plans for the County Fleet Conversion Plan and a Community Wide EV Charging Plan. The meeting on December 3 will shape how the County transitions its vehicles to lower emission options and where EV chargers will be installed to support residents, commuters, businesses and visitors over the next 25 years.

Los Alamos County moved this month to solicit community feedback on two planning documents that will guide transportation electrification and municipal fleet changes for years to come. The County published a notice on November 19 asking residents, business owners and other stakeholders to attend a public meeting on December 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Council Chambers and via Zoom, and to review draft plans that will be available for comment from December 3 through December 17.

The Fleet Conversion Plan outlines how the County intends to transition its vehicle fleet, including light duty cars, work trucks and other vehicles, to lower emission options over time. The plan will affect how local government delivers services, maintains equipment and budgets for vehicle replacement. A staged conversion could reduce fuel costs and emissions while requiring investments in charging infrastructure maintenance and staff training.

The Community Wide EV Charging Plan proposes locations, timing and approaches for installing electric vehicle chargers to serve residents, commuters, businesses and visitors across a long term 25 year horizon. Site selection and timing will determine access for households without home chargers, the convenience of commuters passing through Los Alamos, and the ability of local businesses to attract customers who drive electric vehicles. Planning decisions will also shape traffic patterns in shopping and downtown areas and influence future development and permitting.

Draft documents will be open for public review and comment from December 3 to December 17. The County will accept both online and written comments and intends to present the final package to County Council in February 2026. Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule is listed as the contact on the announcement and on the project page.

For Los Alamos residents the process offers a direct way to influence infrastructure and municipal operations that affect daily commutes, local air quality and the economy. Community responses in December will help determine the pace and priorities of electrification in the County, and will frame how Los Alamos aligns local policy with broader trends in transportation and climate planning.
