State Veterans Services Mobile Unit Visiting Los Alamos April 10
Free one-on-one veteran benefit counseling, including New Mexico property-tax exemption guidance, comes to American Legion Post 90 on April 10.

Veterans who own homes in Los Alamos County may qualify for a New Mexico property-tax exemption they have never claimed, and the state Department of Veterans' Services will bring accredited officers directly to American Legion Post 90, 1325 Trinity Drive, on Friday, April 10, to help them find out. The Mobile Outreach Vehicle will be on site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering free individualized consultations to veterans and their family members. No advance appointment is required.
The session covers the full scope of federal and state benefit categories. Veteran Service Officers can assist with VA compensation claims for service-connected conditions, pension claims for wartime veterans, health-care enrollment questions, and education benefit programs. Among the state-level options is New Mexico's property-tax exemption for eligible veteran homeowners, which NMDVS officers can help veterans access and, where applicable, begin applying for during the visit.
One-on-one access sets the mobile unit apart from phone-based benefit assistance. Rather than navigating a call center, veterans sit down with credentialed officers who can review their specific circumstances, identify applicable programs, and correct the paperwork errors that routinely delay or reduce claim payouts. Officers can also connect veterans with VA health and mental-health resources during the same session.
Surviving spouses and dependents are welcome as well. Officers can assist survivors filing claims on behalf of a deceased service member, which carry separate eligibility criteria and documentation requirements.
"This is an opportunity to ask questions, receive information, and get help claiming the benefits you have earned," NMDVS stated in announcing the Los Alamos stop.
Veterans planning to attend should bring a DD-214 discharge form, any current VA award letters, and a valid state-issued ID. Survivors should also include marriage and death certificates. Arriving with those documents allows an officer to assess eligibility and advance the claims process within the session rather than requiring a follow-up visit.
NMDVS created the Mobile Outreach Vehicle program to serve veterans in smaller communities where the nearest regional office requires significant travel. For Los Alamos County, the April 10 stop at Post 90 on Trinity Drive brings that access directly into the community without the commute.
