US Marshals Operation Nets 920 Arrests Across New Mexico
A 17-week US Marshals operation yielded 920 arrests and cleared 1,076 warrants across New Mexico, but federal prosecutors have filed charges in only five of those cases.

A 17-week multiagency enforcement sweep across New Mexico ended with 920 arrests, 1,076 warrants cleared, and 59 firearms removed from circulation, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, which announced the results of Operation Triple Beam–Shadow Break on March 19.
Led by the U.S. Marshals Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) in partnership with the FBI, New Mexico State Police, and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, the operation commenced November 3, 2025, and concluded February 28, 2026. Agents concentrated on known violent offenders, unlawful gun possession, and narcotics trafficking throughout Albuquerque and surrounding communities. Beyond the arrests and warrants, officers recovered 37 vehicles and seized 1,032.35 grams of methamphetamine, 718.03 grams of cocaine, and 110.10 grams of fentanyl.
"The success of Operation Triple Beam–Shadow Break reflects the strength of the partnerships across New Mexico," said David Barnett, U.S. Marshal for the District of New Mexico. "I am incredibly proud of all our law enforcement partners who have worked so tirelessly over the past four months."
New Mexico Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Jason Bowie framed the operation's scope in his own statement: "Through Operation Triple Beam, the New Mexico State Police, alongside our federal, state, and local partners, worked tirelessly over 120 days to identify and apprehend violent offenders and disrupt organized criminal activity in Albuquerque and the surrounding communities. The results demonstrate the power of coordinated law enforcement efforts and our continued commitment to making New Mexico safer."

What happens next to the 920 people arrested is largely an open question. First Assistant United States Attorney for New Mexico Ryan Ellison said his office had brought federal charges in five cases, with many additional cases still under review for potential federal adoption. The overwhelming majority of prosecutions are expected to fall to local district attorneys across the state.
Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Holly Anderson pointed to prosecution and sentencing as the critical next step. "If we are able to prosecute these offenders and make sure that there are strict sentencing guidelines, so they're not able to get out and re-offend, that is the purpose of these types of operations," she said.
Operation Triple Beam–Shadow Break follows Operation Route 66, a separate enforcement effort that targeted Albuquerque streets in the months prior. Barnett indicated the interagency relationships built during the operation will persist beyond its official conclusion: "While this operation has concluded, our work together continues.
