Detectives from two police departments are searching for a 63-year-old Los Alamos man after a criminal warrant was issued naming him on charges of first-degree kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor under the age of 13.

The warrant names Timothy A. Pacheco, a Los Alamos resident, confirmed on April 3. As of that date, Pacheco had not been taken into custody. Both the Los Alamos Police Department and the Albuquerque Police Department are actively working the investigation.

Under New Mexico law, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13 rank among the most serious felony charges a person can face, and together they represent allegations of grave harm to a very young child. Conviction on either count carries severe penalties.

The involvement of APD alongside LAPD points to cross-jurisdictional elements in the case, whether that reflects investigative leads extending beyond Los Alamos County, the specialized crimes-against-children resources available through a larger department, or the coordination required to locate a suspect who may not be in the immediate area.

A warrant represents a judicial finding of probable cause, not a conviction. The criminal process, if Pacheco is taken into custody, would include an initial appearance, bail determination, preliminary hearings, and either a plea or trial. Nothing in the public record at this stage constitutes proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Because the allegations involve a minor under 13, certain details will remain shielded from public disclosure to protect the victim's privacy, and court filings are expected to reflect those same protections as the case moves forward.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Los Alamos Police Department or the Albuquerque Police Department directly.
