Wheeed! marks fourth birthday with deals, local food, and giveaways

Four years after opening as Los Alamos’ first retail cannabis store, Wheeed! is leaning on the one thing a small market rewards most: convenience. The shop will mark its fourth birthday Monday, April 20, at 555 Oppenheimer Drive, Suite 100, with an all-day event for adults 21 and older from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The birthday setup goes well beyond a routine sale. Wheeed! says visitors will find birthday presents, pastries and coffee from Wolf and Mermaid, enchiladas and tamales from El Parasol, plus discounts and giveaways. In a town where retail options are limited and timing matters, the mix of local food partners and longer hours gives the event a practical edge as well as a promotional one.

Wheeed! has used these anniversary events to keep its storefront visible since it first opened. The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce called it Los Alamos’ first retail cannabis store when it held a ribbon cutting at 4:20 p.m. on April 20, 2022, a symbolic launch that tied the business directly to the town’s evolving retail mix. Since then, each birthday has worked as a marker of whether a highly regulated, still-new business can hold onto customers in a community where repeat visits matter.

The pattern has been consistent. For its first birthday, Wheeed! offered store discounts, birthday gifts, raffles, giveaways and a food truck. For its second birthday in 2024, the business highlighted the fact that cannabis dispensary sales are publicly filed and published each month by the New Mexico Cannabis Control Division, underscoring how visible the sector has become. Its third birthday in 2025 brought another 21-and-over event at the same address, with birthday presents, pizza, pastries and coffee, along with discounts and giveaways.

This year’s celebration also reflects how Wheeed! has built around access. The store says it is open seven days a week and offers curbside pickup, along with Monday-through-Friday delivery after 3 p.m. That combination points to a retailer trying to make itself part of daily life in Los Alamos, not just a destination for occasional purchases. Four years in, Wheeed! has turned its anniversary into a test of staying power, and a reminder that in a small town, visibility, convenience and local ties can matter as much as the sale itself.
