White Rock's Rocket Park Structure Removed During Playground, Skate Area Renovation
The iconic rocket structure at White Rock's Pinon Park has been removed as county crews wrap up a playground and skateboard-area renovation.

The rocket that gave White Rock's Pinon Park its beloved nickname is gone. County crews removed the iconic structure from Rocket Park as part of completed playground and skateboard-area renovations at the site.
The removal marks a significant change for the park, which has long been known informally as Rocket Park after its distinctive centerpiece. County Community Services crews carried out the work as part of the broader renovation effort that also addressed the playground and skateboard area at Pinon Park.
No announcement has been made about whether a replacement structure is planned or what the long-term vision for the site looks like following the renovation. The county's update, which surfaced March 12, described the rocket's removal as part of the completed work at the location rather than as a standalone action.

For a community where landmarks carry particular weight, the rocket's absence will be felt. Pinon Park has served White Rock residents for years, and the rocket structure was among the more recognizable features in a neighborhood that sits just south of Los Alamos proper. Whether the renovation signals a full reimagining of the park's identity, or simply a practical update to aging equipment, remains to be seen as the finished work comes into full view.
