McDowell County deputies seize drugs, guns and cash in warrant search

McDowell County sheriff’s deputies searched a home in the Sandy Huff area near Iaeger and said they found a large amount of narcotics, several firearms and a large amount of money. The search was carried out under a warrant, meaning a judge had already found enough probable cause for deputies to enter the property.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said after the Nov. 3 search that warrants were coming and that the investigation was ongoing. That puts the case on a path toward additional court action, with the seized drugs, guns and cash likely to be used as evidence if prosecutors move forward with charges tied to possession, trafficking or illegal firearm activity.

Deputies did not limit the case to one item or one suspect in their public account. By saying they recovered narcotics, firearms and a large amount of money together, the sheriff’s office signaled the kind of case investigators often treat as more than simple possession, especially when cash and guns are found alongside suspected drug activity.

The Sandy Huff area has already been the focus of other drug-related enforcement in McDowell County. A Sept. 10, 2024, report detailed multiple arrests on drug-related offenses in the same part of the county, underscoring why deputies have kept attention on the corridor around Iaeger.
