Gallup Bengals Claim District 1-4A Regular Season Basketball Championship
Gallup Lady Bengals crushed their opponent 68-38 to clinch the District 1-4A regular season basketball title, with GMCS celebrating both the boys and girls programs as champions.

The Gallup Lady Bengals capped their District 1-4A regular season with a 68-38 victory, earning the program a district championship that Gallup-McKinley County Schools celebrated with certificates and medals presented to players on the court.
Gallup Sun reported March 13 that Gallup High School's Bengals program clinched a district championship during the current high-school basketball postseason. GMCS materials identified the title more specifically, designating the Bengals "District 1-4A Regular Season Champs." The two descriptions use different language, and the full scope of both claims is still being confirmed with school athletics officials — including whether the recognition applies to the boys program, the girls program, or both.
What is explicit in GMCS materials is the Lady Bengals' dominant final score: a 30-point margin over an opponent whose identity has not been confirmed in available materials. The team was photographed on court holding certificates and medals following the win.

The championship comes during a busy stretch for Gallup-McKinley County Schools. Students from Gallup High, Hiroshi Miyamura High, Tohatchi High, Crownpoint High, and Navajo Pine High are competing this week at the New Mexico SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Albuquerque, running March 18 through 21. GMCS noted the competition falls during Spring Break, making the students' participation a voluntary commitment to represent their schools on a statewide stage.
Earlier this month, Gallup High hosted a FAFSA Workshop on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. for students navigating college financial aid. McKinley Academy, the GMCS early-college program operating under the motto "Accelerating Futures," is holding Student and Parent Nights on April 22 and April 23 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at UNM Gallup in SST C Room 200. The program is currently accepting applications from eighth through eleventh grade students for the Fall 2026 semester through the Gallup-McKinley County Schools website.
