Gallup Electric Department Plans One-Hour Sunshine Substation Outage Feb. 27
City of Gallup will de-energize the Sunshine Substation for NTUA emergency maintenance, cutting power from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Feb. 27 in North Side and outlying areas.

The City of Gallup Electric Department will de-energize the Sunshine Substation at the request of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority for emergency maintenance of NTUA’s Mobile Substation, producing a one-hour outage from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 that will affect North Side and several outlying Gallup neighborhoods.
The city posted a public notice on Feb. 19, 2026 announcing the interruption. The notice states, "City of Gallup Electrical Department will be de-energizing Sunshine Substation at the request of NTUA for an emergency maintenance of their Mobile Substation." It adds, "This planned outage will occur in the early morning hours of Friday, February 27," and lists the scheduled "Date: Friday, February 27, 2026 Time: 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m."

The public notice identifies the full affected customer area as: "North Side Maloney between Miyamura Overpass to 5th ST, Sunshine Canyon, Hasler Valley Rd, White Cliffs, Indian Hills, Rehoboth, Sundance, Padre Canyon, Church Rock, Wingate and Jamestown truck stop."
To minimize equipment damage, the notice recommends customers take specific precautions. It advises, "Turn off or unplug sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, audio/Video equipment." The notice also includes the fragmented instruction, "Notify security monitoring [...] audio/Video equipment." and the fuller direction: "Notify security monitoring system about the scheduled power outage."
The city's public notice contains an apology and an assurance about the work's urgency: "We understand the service disruption are challenging and apologize for the inconvenience. This work is essential and we are committed to completing it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation."
For questions or to discuss outage details the notice provides a contact number: "If you have any questions or wish to discuss details of this outage, please call 505-863-1200." The posted notice repeats the "Affected Customer Area:" label and includes duplicated/truncated precaution language in the text provided to the public.
The Feb. 19 public notice does not specify backup arrangements for critical facilities or whether the outage could extend beyond the 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. window; the city’s published text focuses on the NTUA-requested maintenance and the listed customer precautions.
