Gallup Water Crews Schedule Outages, Leak Investigation for April 1-2
Gallup water crews shut off service to Coyote Canyon Drive and Churchrock Street on Tuesday; a second tie-in is cutting water to Route 66 businesses today.

Gallup water crews worked through a planned eight-hour outage Tuesday on 200-206 Coyote Canyon Drive and 3300-3321 Churchrock Street while investigating a possible leak on a city water main, and a second service interruption is underway today along Route 66 near Rico Street.
The April 1 shutdown ran from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and came after the city posted a warning Monday, March 31, that some customers could experience discolored water or low pressure even before the formal cutoff. Surrounding neighborhoods along Churchrock Street were also put on notice for reduced pressure while crews worked.
Today, crews are completing a water-line tie-in at Rico Street and NM Highway 118. Businesses on the north side of Route 66 between Armand Ortega Boulevard and Twin Buttes Road should expect to lose service for several hours during the Thursday afternoon work window. The city cautioned that restoration could run longer than initially estimated if the tie-in reveals additional complications.
If your address is on Coyote Canyon Drive or Churchrock Street and service has not yet fully restored, run cold water for several minutes before drinking or cooking; discoloration can appear as pressure normalizes in the lines. Avoid running dishwashers or washing machines until flow is steady and clear. If you are in the Route 66 corridor between Armand Ortega and Twin Buttes Road, secure bottled water now before crews arrive. Restaurants, child-care facilities, and medical offices in that stretch, particularly any clinic managing wound care or other sterile-water needs, should plan for several hours without tap service and confirm backup supplies are on hand.
For project questions on the Rico Street and NM 118 tie-in, contact DePauli Engineering at 505-863-5440. For after-hours water emergencies anywhere in Gallup, Metro Dispatch takes calls at 505-722-2002. Real-time updates are posted to the City of Gallup's official alert channels.
The city described both projects as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, including main tie-ins and line replacements aimed at strengthening reliability across the north side of town. Customers experiencing low pressure or discoloration outside the listed addresses are encouraged to report it to municipal utilities so crews can identify any secondary effects before the work window closes.
