McKinley County Sheriff Releases 2026 Sex Offender Registration Schedule
April 7 is five days away: McKinley County sex offenders must appear at 300B West Nizhoni Blvd. in Gallup or face criminal penalties under state law.

Five days remain for sex offenders required to register in McKinley County to appear at the Sheriff's Office Records Division before the April 7 window closes at 5 p.m.
The McKinley County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit published its 2026 schedule, setting four quarterly registration dates: January 6 (now passed), April 7, July 7, and October 6. All sessions run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the SORT unit, located at 300B West Nizhoni Boulevard in Gallup.
The legal obligation stems from New Mexico's application of SORNA, the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, which requires anyone convicted of a qualifying sex offense to maintain current, accurate registration with the county sheriff where they reside. Those who live on tribal land register instead with their tribal police department. Missing a scheduled date or failing to update a change of address carries criminal penalties under state law.
Registrants are strongly encouraged to verify their information before arriving April 7. SORT staff can resolve discrepancies in advance by phone at 505-863-1410, extension 3014, or by contacting the Records Division directly during business hours. Bringing current identifying documentation and any updated address information will speed processing on the day.
Community members, employers, and organizations seeking to review public sex offender records can also reach the Records Division at 505-863-1410. Staff will explain which records are available under lawful disclosure and which remain restricted by statute; requests cannot be handled after hours through that line.
McKinley County's quarterly approach mirrors the centralized registration model used across New Mexico, giving registrants predictable compliance windows and giving the public a clear point of contact for record requests. The July 7 and October 6 sessions follow the same 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule at the Nizhoni Boulevard location.
