Mobile home destroyed after explosion in Southwest Miami-Dade trailer park

Emergency crews rushed to a Southwest Miami-Dade trailer park after a loud explosion destroyed a mobile home and displaced seven occupants. No injuries were reported, and investigators had not identified the cause as crews worked the scene.

The fire hit a mobile home in unincorporated Southwest Miami-Dade, where the blast and flames left the unit a total loss. On July 19, responders arrived after the explosion, but the cause remained under investigation.

Investigators in these fires check gas leaks, electrical faults and code violations first. That includes propane lines, service panels, overloaded circuits, unauthorized repairs and additions, and aging wiring that can fail fast in tightly packed parks.

A fire at the Rovell Mobile Home Park in northwest Miami-Dade broke out just after midnight at 939 NW 81st St. in West Little River, displaced several residents and started in the park’s laundry room. One resident said the fire spread within seconds, engulfing several mobile homes.

For Miami-Dade residents living in mobile-home parks, the building inspections division and the neighborhood compliance office handle permit and code questions tied to work on a unit, including electrical or structural changes.

Residents should treat a gas smell, sparking outlets, scorch marks around panels, frequent breaker trips and makeshift wiring as warning signs that need immediate attention. If those conditions appear, get out, call 911 and do not re-enter until fire crews or inspectors clear the home.
