All-Keys girls soccer roundup spotlights Key West, Coral Shores, Marathon

Madison Kilduff and Kai Redruello set the tone for Monroe County girls soccer on the season’s first night, with Kilduff striking early for Key West and Redruello answering late on a penalty kick as the Conchs and Coral Shores finished in a 1-1 draw in the Upper Keys.

That opening result became the clearest snapshot of the county’s year: Key West and Coral Shores were close enough to trade blows, while Marathon spent much of the winter trying to close the gap. In the end, Key West finished 10-6-4 in Class 4A District 16, Coral Shores went 5-7-2 in Class 3A District 16 and Marathon ended 3-12-1 in Class 2A District 16.

Key West’s season carried the strongest district profile of the three. The Conchs tied Coral Shores to open the schedule, then beat the same opponent in the rematch and swept Marathon in regular-season play. They moved through the district quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals, a run that underscored how much ground the program covered from November into postseason play.

The head-to-head margins told the rest of the story. Coral Shores beat Marathon 8-0 on Dec. 10 and 5-0 on Jan. 7, while Key West handled Marathon 7-0 on Dec. 16 and 1-0 on Jan. 15. Marathon did not post an in-county win, and the repeated scores made clear that the county’s internal hierarchy remained intact even as all three schools kept competing across different classifications.

That is why the All-Keys roundup mattered beyond the usual end-of-season honors. In Monroe County, where the schools are separated by water, mileage and class lines, girls soccer still provided one of the few truly local measuring sticks. Coral Shores and Marathon also continued the county’s longest-running in-county sports rivalry, and the annual recognition piece served as a record of which players and programs held the standard. The 2025-26 season showed a countywide sport that stayed active, competitive and tightly linked to local identity, with Key West, Coral Shores and Marathon each leaving a clearer mark than they had a few seasons ago.
