Fantasy Fest 2026 set to kick off Oct. 16 in Key West

Fantasy Fest 2026 is set for Oct. 16-25 in Key West, giving Monroe County its clearest marker yet for the island’s biggest crowd surge of the year. The theme, “Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals,” will drive the costumes, parades and nightlife that define the 10-day run. For residents, visitors and business owners, the date is the point when hotel pressure, traffic planning and crowd control shift from anticipation to action.

The Key West Chamber of Commerce said June 24 that Fantasy Fest 2026 would be Key West’s annual multi-day costuming extravaganza in Paradise. The official Fantasy Fest website lists presenting partners as the Florida Keys and Key West tourism authority, Captain Morgan, Dulce Vita, Bad Banana Software, Keys Weekly and Florida Keys Media, a roster that shows how tightly the event is tied to the island’s tourism economy and its marketing engine.

The official schedule page was already showing a countdown by late July, a sign that planning was underway months before the first masked procession. That early clock matters in Key West, where Fantasy Fest affects lodging availability, restaurant staffing, transportation, policing and sanitation along the same narrow streets that handle everyday traffic. Hoteliers and short-term rental hosts use the October dates to set rates and manage occupancy; bars, restaurants and costume sellers use them to lock in labor and inventory. City crews and public safety agencies use them to map pedestrian flow, parking pressure and crowd management around the busiest nights.

Fantasy Fest’s return in October 2022 after the COVID shutdowns underscored how important the event remains to the island’s recovery and its standing in Florida’s tourism market. The festival is still known as a multi-venue costume celebration for grown-ups, built around masked processions, parties, contests and dances, and that mix continues to make it one of the most visible economic spikes on the Key West calendar.
