Four charged after sword attack, kidnapping in Stock Island trailer

A Stock Island woman ended up with a punctured lung after deputies say she was stabbed with a sword, robbed and held inside a camper on 10th Avenue. Four people tied to the same trailer now face felony charges, and investigators say the attack left detectives sorting through allegations of violence, restraint and theft.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the case began around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, June 7, after hospital staff at Lower Keys Medical Center reported a stabbing victim. Deputies said the woman later arrived at the hospital after the assault inside the trailer, and NBC 6 South Florida reported Monday, June 8, that her punctured lung did not appear to be life-threatening.

Investigators say 20-year-old Marlon Albero Bernal Cabrera stabbed the woman during the confrontation. Three other Stock Island residents, Jasmine Elizabeth Jones, 29, Zjiavon Deaute Green, 31, and Arlem Cristina Silva Cruz, 39, were accused of helping restrain her, preventing her from leaving and, in some accounts, hitting her during the attack. The victim told investigators that one suspect stabbed her while others held her down or blocked her from getting away.

Deputies also said the woman was robbed during the attack. Investigators said the stolen items included a laptop computer and Diazepam medication. The victim was reportedly allowed to change out of her bloody clothes before she was taken to the hospital. Detectives recovered the sword used in the attack and the victim’s bloodied clothing at the scene, evidence that helped turn the case into a fast-moving felony investigation.

Bernal Cabrera was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping or false imprisonment. Jones and Green each face kidnapping and false imprisonment charges. Silva Cruz faces those charges as well, along with possession of methamphetamine, possession of prescription pills without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrest records show Bernal Cabrera was booked June 8 at 2:18 p.m. at 5900 College Rd. in Stock Island, and his arraignment was listed for June 23 at 9 a.m.
