Out of the Closet Fashion Show Returns to Key West to Benefit Queer Keys

More than 20 local models will take the runway tonight at Opal Key Resort & Marina when Kirby's Closet boutique and the nonprofit Queer Keys stage the third annual Out of the Closet fashion show fundraiser at 245 Front St. in Key West. The free event begins at 6:15 p.m., with organizers urging early arrival due to limited, first-come, first-serve seating.

The show has become one of Key West's most anticipated community nights since Myers, a longtime advocate for inclusivity, joined forces with Queer Keys co-founder Chris McNulty three years ago to launch it. Over that span, the event has raised more than $26,000 through local sponsorships and community support, with proceeds benefiting the Queer Keys Community Center and its work serving the LGBTQIA+ community across the Florida Keys.

"At its core, this event is about more than fashion," said Myers. "It's about creating a space where people feel seen, celebrated and free to express exactly who they are."

Tonight's program pairs the runway show with DJs and live performances, while guests can take advantage of a cash bar. Each of the 20-plus models brings, in organizers' words, their own energy and identity to the stage, framing the entire evening around fashion as a vehicle for self-expression.

Kirby's Closet, located at 218 Whitehead St., has co-hosted the event since its inception. Queer Keys' stated mission is to support, educate, empower and celebrate the queer community throughout the Keys, and the organization has used events like Out of the Closet to build visibility and local connection alongside its fundraising goals.

Admission is free and open to the public. Doors open at Opal Key Resort & Marina at 245 Front St., and given the show's track record of filling seats fast, arriving well before the 6:15 p.m. start is the safest bet.
