Former Jersey Coach Chris Skinner Elected to State Hall of Fame
Chris Skinner was elected to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on December 18, 2025, capping a 35 year career that included five seasons as Jersey Community High School head coach and ongoing work as Jacksonville's offensive line coach. The honor highlights local coaching continuity and the role veteran educators play in youth development and community engagement across Morgan County.

Chris Skinner was elected to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on December 18, 2025, a recognition that celebrates a long coaching and teaching career rooted in Jersey and now continuing in Jacksonville. Skinner retired from Jersey Community High School in 2022 after 35 years at the school, and he currently serves as offensive line coach at Jacksonville, where he continues to mentor young players.
"I was shocked," Skinner said. "I found out Tuesday when (former Alton coach) Jeff Alderman called me." The election places Skinner among the 2026 Hall of Fame class and attracted congratulations from former colleagues and mentors whose influence he has acknowledged throughout his career.
Skinner spent five seasons as head football coach at Jersey, compiling a 23 and 25 record, and he also coached bowling and wrestling while teaching at the school. He emphasized his preference for hands on player development in his role as an assistant. "I enjoyed being a head coach," Skinner said, "but I really love being an assistant coach. Coaching offensive line is very gratifying. To see young players develop and mature is an amazing thing."

For Morgan County residents, the selection underscores how high school athletics function as both developmental programs and community institutions. Skinner's long tenure at Jersey followed by his work at Jacksonville provides continuity for local athletes and contributes to the informal network of coaching expertise that supports youth participation in sports. Stability in coaching staff often correlates with sustained program investment, steady participation rates, and stronger relationships between schools and local businesses that host events and fundraisers.
While Hall of Fame recognition is an individual honor, its local effect can be tangible. Coaches with multi decade careers generate mentorship networks, attract volunteer support, and help maintain program traditions that draw families and community members to games and school events. Skinner's election is a milestone for Jersey alumni, Jacksonville players, and the wider Morgan County sports community, reinforcing the value of experienced educators who commit decades to local youth and athletics.
