South Jacksonville residents will have Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 7-9, to clear out large household items and bulky debris during village-wide cleanup days.

The village has handled cleanup drives this way before. In a 2020 South Jacksonville Fire Department notice, residents were told to take items to the South Jacksonville Garage on Hardin Street and place them in a dumpster, with identification required to confirm residency. That same notice also said pickup was available for elderly and handicapped residents upon request on June 9 and 10. A later cleanup schedule placed the garage at 1589 Hardin Ave., showing the village has used the same basic model for bulky-item collection before.

South Jacksonville is a small West Central Illinois community about a half hour west of Springfield, and the cleanup sits inside the everyday work of keeping the village livable. Village Hall is at 301 Dewey Drive, and the South Jacksonville Street Department/Public Works can be reached at (217) 245-4803. That department maintains the village’s streets and recreational parks, the kind of basic infrastructure that can quickly be strained when unwanted furniture, appliances and other large items are left around town.

The village’s resident portal includes an “Abandoned Item / Trash Report” form, and the municipal code includes Chapter 51, Garbage and Recycling. Together, those details show that bulky-item disposal is not just a spring chore in South Jacksonville; it is part of the village’s broader system for handling waste, complaints and neighborhood upkeep.

For residents clearing out garages, replacing furniture or finishing spring cleaning, the three-day window matters. A short cleanup period gives the village one coordinated chance to pull bulky debris out of residential areas instead of dealing later with scattered dumpsites, missed pickups and abandoned items along streets and alleys.
