Nye County families enrolled in Nevada Medicaid now have round-the-clock access to board-certified pediatricians without leaving Pahrump, thanks to a partnership between CareSource Nevada and Blueberry Pediatrics that delivers virtual care at no cost to members and ships a diagnostic kit directly to their homes.

CareSource announced the statewide collaboration on February 17, and it applies to members enrolled in both Nevada Medicaid and Nevada Check-Up. Parents can reach a pediatrician anytime by text, phone, video or secure messaging, with no appointments and no copays, according to CareSource's own promotional materials. Every enrolled family receives a Blueberry Medical Kit containing a digital otoscope, a pediatric pulse oximeter and a thermometer, giving physicians enough clinical data to assess and treat many conditions without an in-person visit.

Blueberry Pediatrics, founded in 2017, built its model around exactly this kind of remote-first delivery. The company says its tools "enable physicians to conduct real clinical assessments remotely and resolve many pediatric needs without requiring an in-person visit." The conditions covered run from common colds, fevers and ear infections to stomach issues, rashes, hives, bug bites and pink eye. Blueberry also provides developmental, behavioral, social and mental health screenings.

CareSource Nevada CEO Jayme Puu framed the program as a direct response to Nye County's geographic realities. "Through our partnership with Blueberry, we're effectively extending pediatric access to Nevada frontier and rural community by bringing high-quality, convenient care to children in communities where traditional infrastructure doesn't exist," Puu said. "Expanding access is a core promise to our members and we're proud to help lead that transformation in Nevada."

The stakes are significant in a county where driving to a pediatric specialist can mean hours on the road. Blueberry estimates that approximately 27% of Nevada's rural population accesses health care through Medicaid, meaning the partnership could reach thousands of families across rural counties statewide.

For Nye County specifically, the announcement arrives at a consequential moment. With rural communities now included in Nevada's Medicaid Managed Care system, residents must choose between two approved plan providers: CareSource and SilverSummit Healthplan. Those who did not select a plan when enrollment information went out last October were assigned to one automatically. The 90-day window to switch managed-care providers closes on March 31, leaving little time for families weighing which plan best fits their needs.
