Community Fundraiser Supports Sheriff’s Office Programs and Local Engagement
Friends of Nye County Sheriff’s Office is holding its inaugural fundraiser tonight to raise money for community outreach programs including Shop with a Cop and local parades. The free event at Artesian Cellars offers an opportunity for residents to meet nonprofit organizers and deputies, and to support community policing efforts that connect deputies with youth and families.

Friends of Nye County Sheriff’s Office is hosting its first public fundraiser tonight from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Artesian Cellars Winery, 1731 Highway 160 in Pahrump. The newly formed nonprofit, operating under the tagline “Backing the badge. Serving the community,” is seeking community support to fund programs that promote positive engagement between the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and local residents.
Admission to the event is free, making it accessible to a broad cross section of county residents. The fundraiser will center on raffles and a 50/50 drawing. Organizers advised guests to bring cash because there is no ATM on site at the winery. Attendees may also choose to support the business by ordering food or drinks as live entertainment is provided by Ruh Roh Music.
Proceeds will be directed to established outreach efforts including Shop with a Cop, holiday and community parades, and other programs designed to build relationships between deputies and families across Nye County. Those programs aim to increase face to face contact between law enforcement and youth, a practice local officials and community members often cite as a means to reduce misunderstanding and strengthen trust.

The appearance of a nonprofit dedicated to supporting law enforcement highlights a broader trend in local governance where community groups supplement public budgets to maintain or expand outreach work. Private fundraising can quickly restore funding for popular programs, but it also raises questions about long term sustainability and the balance between public funding responsibilities and community supported initiatives. For residents, tonight’s event offers both immediate benefits for youth programs and a forum to evaluate how community priorities are being organized and financed.
By attending, residents can directly influence program viability through donations and ticket purchases, and can assess how the nonprofit plans to steward funds in support of public safety engagement. The fundraiser provides a practical way for the community to participate in shaping local outreach between deputies and the families they serve.
