Crash blocks both directions on Pahrump Valley Highway near Mile Marker 19
A crash shut down both directions of Pahrump Valley Highway at Mile Marker 19, forcing drivers off SR-160 near Mountain Springs and reviving concern over a deadly stretch.

All northbound and southbound lanes on Pahrump Valley Highway were blocked at Mile Marker 19 after a crash on State Route 160, forcing drivers to avoid the area and look for alternate routes. The closure hit one of Nye County’s key connectors at a point near Mountain Springs, disrupting traffic on a corridor many drivers use between Pahrump and the Las Vegas valley.
The RTC said the crash shut down the roadway in both directions, and motorists were told to stay out of the area and use alternate routes. No detour had been spelled out in the available reporting, leaving drivers to reroute around the blocked stretch as officials worked the scene.
Nevada State Police traffic logs showed a separate SR-160 incident at Mile Marker 19 at 7:36 p.m. on April 18, listed as a vehicle accident with possible delays in Las Vegas and Clark County. As of the latest available information, officials had not released the cause of the April 18 crash, how many vehicles were involved, or whether anyone was hurt.
The closure landed at the same mile marker where Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a five-vehicle crash on northbound State Route 160 on January 4, 2026, at 4:38 p.m. KTNV later reported that one person critically injured in that crash died at the hospital on January 8. That earlier wreck was identified near Mountain Springs, adding to a troubling pattern on the same segment of highway.
For Nye County drivers, the impact of a full closure at Mile Marker 19 can ripple quickly through work commutes, school travel and emergency response times. When both directions are blocked on SR-160, traffic has little room to absorb the interruption, and the route can become a bottleneck for anyone trying to move between Pahrump, Mountain Springs and the Las Vegas area.
The April 18 crash added another delay to a stretch of highway that has already seen serious collisions this year. Until investigators clear the roadway and release more details, drivers heading through Mile Marker 19 are being pushed onto other routes while one of the county’s busiest road links remains under pressure.
