Between Dec. 17 and Dec. 22, Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue handled four distinct emergencies across Pahrump, with one patient airlifted to trauma care and multiple scenes that posed risks to nearby structures and residents. The sequence began on Friday, Dec. 17, at about 10 a.m. on Oxbow Avenue, when crews found a vehicle that "had brushed the building with no structural integrity damage," Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Lewis said. The single occupant was medically assessed and transported to Desert View Hospital.

In the predawn hours of Sunday, Dec. 21, crews responded to a report of a gunshot at the Chicken Ranch Brothel on Homestead Road. Responders discovered a patient with an apparent accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. "That patient was subsequently transported to Mercy Air Base 21 and flown to trauma," Lewis explained, underscoring the severity of the injury and the use of air resources for higher-level care.

On Monday, Dec. 22, at approximately 12:30 p.m., firefighters extinguished a heavily engulfed commercial van fire on Mount Charleston Drive that had burned near a primary dwelling. "Upon arrival, we found a commercial van parked just off the driveway in close proximity to the primary dwelling," Lewis said. Crews brought the blaze under control quickly and there were no reported injuries; the department believes the fire was accidental in nature.

Later that same evening, at about 6 p.m., crews were sent to Ian Deutch Memorial Park for a structure fire. Firefighters "found two adjacent rooms within the same structure that had fire conditions inside, mostly due to accumulation of rubbish," Lewis said. Those fires were quickly extinguished, there were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation and suspected to be intentional.

Four incidents in six days place a spotlight on both immediate community safety and longer-term resource planning for emergency services. Air transport to trauma indicates at least one case with high medical cost and urgency, while vehicle and structure fires carry risks for property damage and insurance claims. For residents, practical steps can reduce local risk: secure firearms and follow safe-handling practices, remove combustible rubbish from public and private structures, and maintain vehicles to limit mechanical fire hazards.

Officials have not reported suspects in the park incident. Residents with information about any of these events are encouraged to contact local authorities. For more details, contact reporter Elijah Dulay at edulay@pvtimes.com.
