Nightfall Games, a retail and community space for trading card games, opened its doors in Pahrump on Dec. 13, filling a local gap for collectors and players who previously had to travel to Las Vegas or beyond. Owner James Wiley said the store’s grand opening drew 196 people, a turnout he called “a grand slam,” and the shop has since established a core of about 15 regular customers. Those early figures suggest strong latent demand for niche hobby retail in Nye County’s largest community.

Wiley relocated to Pahrump about a year before opening the store and cited convenience for local players as a primary motivation. “I moved here about a year ago from Washington, and I’m a big Magic: The Gathering player, and there wasn’t really anywhere local I could go and get the cards to play,” he said. Reflecting on his decision to open the business, Wiley added that he had grown tired of traveling for supplies and play: “So, I got tired of driving back and forth from Vegas, and that’s kind of how it came to be.”

Nightfall Games stocks a range of trading card titles, including Pokémon, Riftbound, the One Piece Card Game, and Magic: The Gathering, and sells snacks and drinks on site. The store features a dedicated game room intended to host regular weekly events designed to generate repeat foot traffic: Warhammer nights on Mondays, Magic: The Gathering nights on Fridays, and chess nights on Saturdays, with formal times to be posted on the business Facebook page. The shop also runs a weekly trading night every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

From an economic perspective, a specialty retail outlet like Nightfall Games brings several local benefits. It captures discretionary spending that previously left the county, offers part-time employment or contract opportunities tied to events, and creates a predictable weekly cadence of visitors that can support nearby businesses. Wiley framed the store as a family-friendly gathering place: “It’s a fun place for families to come out after work and have a game night where they can just spend a couple of hours,” he said. He also emphasized affordability and choice as local priorities: “I hope that I satisfy the community with options and prices… I’d like to see the locals have a local store that they can go to.”

Nightfall Games is open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 1201 South Highway 160, Unit 102. Contact the shop at (775) 990-2993. For updates and event announcements, visit the shop’s Facebook page under Nightfall Games and find them on Instagram at @nightfall_games1.
