On January 8, Pahrump coach and trainer David Wilson unveiled Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics, a community-focused youth training program set to begin Sunday, January 25. The program will hold structured group sessions once each week during the school year at the Pahrump Valley High School track and field facility, running Sundays between 8 and 11 a.m. Individual sessions will last about 60 to 75 minutes depending on age group.

Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics will serve boys and girls ages 5 to 18 and is designed to improve overall athleticism across six development areas: speed, agility, strength, jumping, endurance, and flexibility. Training will include sprinting technique, footwork and balance drills, bodyweight and functional strength exercises, plyometrics, endurance work, and stretching and mobility routines aimed at both performance and injury prevention.

“I’m super excited to start,” Wilson said. “Right now, it’s just going to be me, but the focus is on getting kids moving, learning proper techniques, and building confidence together.” He also described the coaching effort as part of a broader plan: “Over the Mountain Athletics is something I’m just starting, so I’m still getting everything together,” Wilson said. That umbrella brand will eventually include Pahrump Valley Junior Golf and personal training services based at a gym in Mountain Falls in addition to the new junior athletics program.

For families, the program promises a low-barrier way to access sport-specific movement education that complements school and club teams. Regular, developmentally appropriate training can help reduce risk of common overuse injuries by teaching proper mechanics and by building balanced strength and flexibility. The program’s stated focus on fun, positive coaching and inclusion of athletes of all experience levels may be especially important for younger children and those new to organized sports.

Wilson plans to expand the schedule in summer months to three training days per week, offering more frequent opportunities for endurance, speed, and strength development; exact summer dates and times will be announced later. The weekly school-year schedule and the choice of the high school track also reflect a growing use of local public facilities for youth programming, an affordable model that can increase access across the community.

Families interested in the program can follow Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics on Facebook or email pvjuniorathletics@gmail.com for updates and registration details. As the program gets underway, organizers hope it will become a sustainable asset for Pahrump families seeking safe, structured, and equitable opportunities for youth physical development.
