Nye County back-to-school fair draws more than 900 people

More than 900 people attended Nye County’s Back to School Fair, a turnout that shows how many families are still relying on one place to cover school-year costs before classes start. The crowd at the Pahrump event also shows how the fair has become more than a giveaway: it functions as a countywide service day where students and parents can pick up products and services in one trip.

The fair has been anchored at Pahrump Valley High School, 501 E. Calvada Blvd., for years. A Nye County School District notice posted July 5, 2022, set that year’s fair for Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and listed the Nye Communities Coalition at 775-727-9970 for general information.

The event has continued to return to the same Pahrump site. A NyE Communities Coalition calendar entry listed a Back to School Fair for July 26, 2025, at Pahrump Valley High School, and district posts in 2026 again placed the fair there. One May 29, 2026, district post set that year’s fair for Saturday, July 25, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and said students were required to be at the event to receive products and services.

That requirement shows how the fair is structured as more than a passive pickup line. It tied the giveaway directly to student participation, turning the day into a coordinated school-related stop rather than a simple distribution table. In a county where Pahrump serves as the main population center, the repeated use of the high school campus gives schools, nonprofits and community partners a central place to meet families as they prepare for the new school year.
